Forest rehabilitation
Where fences secure the edge, six active rehabilitation projects are helping degraded mountain forest come back on the water towers.
Problem: Cleared or burned patches inside otherwise protected water towers leak soil, water and wildlife habitat even when the outer fence is sound.
Action: Rhino Ark supports six ongoing forest rehabilitation projects across its landscapes, working with Kenya Forest Service and Community Forest Associations to replant and protect recovering blocks.
Outcome: More indigenous cover returns on secured boundaries, complementing the 318,000+ trees planted across programmes and keeping catchments working for downstream users.
